Orimono Elegance is a small, founder-led business in Newark, Delaware, making handmade buckwheat pillows, meditation cushions and pillow covers. Our idea is simple: affordable handmade luxury.
Why we started
We believe good rest shouldn't be a luxury. Orimono Elegance grew out of long nights and a lot of persistence: the quiet, unglamorous work of learning a craft, sourcing the right materials, and figuring out how to make something well and still price it fairly. There was no shortcut for any of it, just trial, error and late nights before the first pillow felt right enough to sell. We wanted to make the kind of pillow we ourselves wanted to sleep on: supportive, breathable and built to last, at a price real people can afford.
What goes into every piece
Every Orimono Elegance pillow and cushion starts with cleaned buckwheat hulls, the fill used in traditional Japanese sobakawa pillows. The hulls hold their shape around your head and neck and let air move through, so the pillow stays supportive night after night.
Covers are cut from undyed cotton, linen or printed cotton with block-print floral designs, most with a zipper so you can adjust the fill yourself. We design every piece, choose the materials and check the quality ourselves, and a trusted partner workshop helps with the stitching and basic assembly. Every order is inspected before it ships.
Small batches, checked by hand
We don't mass-produce. Pillows, cushions and covers are made in small batches, which means more attention on each one. We check every piece for quality before it's packed, because we're the ones who decide what a good pillow looks like, not a factory spec sheet.
The name
Orimono (織物) is Japanese for woven cloth, a nod to the fabrics at the heart of everything we make, and to the long Japanese tradition of buckwheat, or sobakawa, pillows.

We've sold on Etsy since 2025, where we're a Star Seller with more than 2,200 orders and an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 from over 460 reviews. Customers most often mention the quality, the full and adjustable fill, and how quickly their orders arrive. That kind of feedback, order after order, is a lot of why we decided to grow beyond Etsy and open this shop.
Where we're headed
This shop is the next step for us: a home for the same handmade pillows and cushions outside of Etsy, with more room to explain the materials, the sizing and the small choices that go into each piece. We're still a small, hands-on team, and we plan to keep it that way even as we grow.
